This role is responsible for supporting the day to day delivery of high quality, enjoyable and safe adventure at
Gilwell Park. By leading the way with our team of volunteers; this post is all about ensuring that every experience we deliver at Gilwell is enjoyed.

Key tasks

  • Act as a positive role model to our volunteer team by providing excellent customer service at all times
  • Work within and endorse the use of Scout Adventures Policy and Procedure
  • Contribute to the development of Gilwell Park; both toward supporting the volunteer and staff team as well as wider development of the centre.
  • Work with centre team to provide a consistent and positive management approach to volunteers on the centre; supporting them to be the best that they can be
  • Provide on call senior duty management support as agreed with Centre Manager
  • Support the safe running of activities through the delivery of training, session observations and reviews with instructors
  • Support the senior volunteers with caring for our volunteers
  • Ensure that consistent and timely induction and ongoing training for onsite volunteers
  • Support the Adventure Experience Manager in ensuring that all sessions, volunteers and staff have their rota created
  • Ensuring that daily/pre-arrival building/site checks are completed as required.
  • Other tasks as required to ensure that every visitor to Gilwell has a safe and memorable experience.

As a key part of our experience team; it’s vital that you are 100% a people person. From taking care of our volunteers to supporting our customers to have a great time whilst they are here; this role is fundamental to the experience we want to deliver at Gilwell Park. You’re going to need to be passionate about the outdoors, happy to get stuck in and help with whatever needs doing as well as have a want to see people around you succeed. Working as part of the small Scout Adventures team based at Gilwell; you’ll play a key part in enabling young people to have an adventure. It will be important that you can both work on your own; but also be able and willing to share your skill and knowledge with others- helping them to learn and develop. Our network of Adventure Locations are spread right across the UK; meaning that travel and nights away from home will be an occasional requirement of this role.

Skills and Abilities

  • Highly personable and people motivated
  • Ability to build effective relationships with customers and staff
  • Be able to cope well with a diverse workload that requires prioritising

Knowledge and Experience

  • Proven competence in working within an operational outdoor education environment
  • Understanding of the value and importance of informal education; especially in the outdoors
  • Knowledge of the outdoor industry; including of activities and volunteer management
