Overall purpose of the role
 
This management role will take on responsibility of delivering the day-to-day operations of the outdoor residential and activity facilities at Netherurd, Girlguiding Scotland’s national activity and training centre.

Main areas of responsibility

Programme and Activities

  • To be responsible for all the functions related to the provision of outdoor residential and activity facilities to include campsites, instructing, and related staffing and budgets
  • To proactively research potential additions for outdoor kit/programme activities that could be offered at the centre and develop costed proposals
  • To manage and co-ordinate operational delivery of outdoor activities and events working other staff and contractors as needed
  • To plan effectively for sessions, providing relevant session information to clients and staff in a timely manner

Health and safety

  • To ensure compliance in relation to relevant Health and Safety legislation. This involves record keeping for all outdoor activities including facilities, managing the appropriate licences, certificates, maintenance records and risk assessments
  • Provide routine safety checks of grounds, campsites and woodlands areas used for activities and trails. Ensure the required maintenance of these areas is completed

Customer Service

  • To ensure the consistent delivery of excellent customer services ensuring agreed service levels are met and promoting repeat business
  • To ensure a positive contribution to the overall culture of the centre
  • To complete all admin requirements, including bookings, programmes and payments

Management role

  • In the absence of the centre manager to ensure that the centre is run effectively, that any problems are resolved in a professional and timely manner and reported to the Centre Manager
  • To be responsible for the management of employees and contractors within the centre in conjunction with the centre manager. This includes staff recruitment, induction, performance management, personal development and efficient rota management
  • To make decisions that best allow for the delivery of the centre’s performance objectives, ensuring that plans are cost effective and customer focused
  • To have line management responsibility for the instructor and programme team

Additional Information

  • This post requires frequent weekend and evening work, including overnight duty management when required
  • To undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required to fulfill the responsibilities of this post

  • Strong leadership qualities and the ability to motivate staff to meet tight deadlines
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written

  • Strong Health and Safety knowledge in relation to outdoor activities

Experience

  • Working with internal customers at all levels of an organisation, and external customers from a wide range of client groups
  • Managing staff team of at least 10
  • Centre-based operations delivery and facility management
  • Innovative ways of working

Qualifications

  • At least 3 NGB qualifications in paddle sports, roped activities archery or walking/mountaineering
  • Experience of delivering bushcraft, low ropes, raft building, and wilderness trails
  • First aid outdoor
