Description

Key Role:

  • To lead and support Radnor House Sevenoaks in achieving its aims
  • To deliver an Adventurous Education programme across the entire school of the highest quality with professional, highly qualified staff who constantly seek to improve professional practice through critical self-reflection
  • To develop opportunities for developing mental toughness and resilience in pupils across the Upper Prep and Senior School

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • To develop and deliver a curriculum in Upper Prep, Lower School and Middle School to further enhance resilience and mental toughness
  • To work closely with academic leaders across the Prep and Senior School to ensure AOE activities provide opportunities for intellectual stretch and challenge
  • Upper Prep – to develop and deliver a bespoke curriculum focussing on bush craft skills, outdoor learning opportunities and other team related activities as appropriate
  • Lower School – to develop and deliver a bespoke curriculum focussing on expedition training, navigation, teamwork and camp craft.
  • Lower School – to run a series of adventurous expeditions throughout Y7 & 8 which build on the skills learnt above.
  • Middle School – to deliver the Duke of Edinburgh (DoE) Award Scheme to all of Year 9 within an allocated curriculum period
  • Middle School – to lead the DoE Award Scheme at Silver and Gold level in Years 10 and 12, comprising activities and expeditions
  • To be the trip leader for all expeditions
  • To be the DoE Manager for the school with responsibility for registering the centre and maintaining all records with DoE centrally.
  • To be responsible for the range and depth of the AOE life of Radnor House Sevenoaks.
  • To monitor and allocate staff to activities as required
  • To monitor the quality of provision throughout the year and annually to the Board of Directors
  • To work closely with parents on the administration of the AOE curriculum
  • To reflect critically on feedback from parents, pupils and staff
  • To utilise external organisations where appropriate for clubs and activities

 

Personal Specification:

 

The successful candidate must have:

 

  • A higher level Mountain Leader Award in Outdoor Education
  • Current knowledge and experience of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme
  • Current First Aid
  • Experience of working with young people
  • Motivational and leadership skills to encourage participation
  • A desire to set high standards and be a role model for other staff and students.
  • A commitment to uphold the core values of Radnor House Sevenoaks
  • Flexibility in order to meet the demands of the role which will include working evenings, weekends and during the school holidays when required.

 

 

Other considerations:

 

  • Members of staff should, at all times work within the framework provided by the school's policy statements to fulfil the general aims and objectives of Radnor House Sevenoaks.
  • To contribute to the co-curricular life of Radnor House Sevenoaks.
  • To undertake such other duties as the Head or Deputy may reasonably request.
