Girlguiding Ulster currently looking to appoint a new Outdoor Activities Manager to work at Lorne Estate located in Holywood, Co. Down. This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with extensive outdoor experience to join our team during an exciting time for the centre.

Lorne Estate is owned by Girlguiding Ulster and you will be involved in the delivery of an extensive programme of events for members across Northern Ireland. However, we are also open to all and you will also work extensively with schools, other uniformed organisations, church organisations, charities and corporate groups. No two days are ever the same, just as no two customers are ever the same.

The successful candidate will have experience working in the outdoor industry in both delivering sessions and in the behind the scenes logistics which includes liaising with customers to ensure their programme is designed to meet their exact needs and preparing instructor rotas and schedules. You will be passionate about the use of outdoor education to provide exciting, fun and challenging adventurous opportunities to our guests within a framework of safety.

We’re looking for someone who can provide strong leadership and direction to our team of activity instructors. You will recruit, train, motivate and inspire the team to ensure that high quality, fun and adventurous programmes of activities are delivered to our customers.

Criteria – Qualifications

5 GCSE’s or equivalent (including Maths and English) Essential
Relevant outdoor activity qualifications – at least two of the following SPA, ML, Archery GB Instructor Award, CWA or ERCA Instructor Essential
ERCA Instructor and ERCA Rescuer or the experience, fitness and technical ability to achieve these within 6 months of commencing Essential
Current First aid qualification Desirable
Operational Inspection Course Desirable

Criteria -  Experience  

At least 3 years experience of working as an Outdoor Activity instructor Essential
Experience of leading a team Essential
Experience of supervising on activities Essential
Experience of delivering training programmes Essential
Proven ability of planning and co-ordinating schedules and programmes Desirable
Experience of working closely with volunteers Desirable

Criteria – Knowledge and Skills  

Computer literate, including experience of Microsoft Office Essential
Excellent communication skills, written and oral Essential
Ability to work accurately and pay close attention to detail Essential
Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative Essential
Ability to organise own time/workload to achieve deadlines Essential
Knowledge of health and safety and risk assessments Essential
Knowledge of Girlguiding and an understanding of its ethos Desirable
