Description

Ardentinny Outdoor Education Centre is currently wishing to expand its Outdoor Education Instructor Team. Situated on the west coast of Scotland, Ardentinny OEC is superbly placed within the setting of Argyll mountains and sea lochs to provide outstanding Outdoor Learning.

Activity sessions make use of the fantastic local environment - sea and freshwater lochs, mountains and crags. The landscape enables us to deliver memorable and hugely rewarding Outdoor Learning Experiences. The Centre endeavours to build a team of Instructors to offer clients a quality and consistent experience.

  • £19,000 per annum
  • A £300 annual Training allowance
  • £200 annual allowance towards required Staff Outdoor Equipment
  • Paid weekend work
  • Positions to start in January 2022
  • Accommodation can be provided
  • Centre equipment is also available for staff to use

Main Duties                           

  •  Provide quality educational sessions to include when required the use of reviewing techniques. 
  •  Assist with the continual development of the centre’s services whereby,high quality sessions, systems and courses are maintained.
  •  Assist with the centres maintenance objectives.
  •  Carry out administrative tasks to ensure the safe and smooth running of the courses and services on offer.

Requirements

We are really looking forward to our recruitment for this year. We pride ourselves on producing great courses and constructing strong working relationships with centre staff. We would seek candidates who can work within a small professional team and who are at a stage in their career where they have at least 2 NGB awards, have relevant experience of working in a range of landscapes and terrain and have a proven range of client interaction skills.

Priority NGB Award Qualification Experiences

  • Mountaineering
  • Rock climbing and abseiling
  • Canoeing /Kayaking
  • Sailing 

Essential Criteria

  • At least two years previous experience within outdoor education
  • Experience of delivering and developing a wide variety of adventure activities, including rock-sport, canoeing, sailing, and mountaineering
  • Excellent reviewing and presentational skills
  • Membership of the PVG scheme (Protecting Vulnerable Groups - managed by Disclosure Scotland)
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • A good level of fitness
  • Well developed knowledge of outdoor education and its relevance to the school curriculum

Desirable Criteria

  • Summer Mountain Leader Award
  • RCI / Single Pitch Award
  • Level One Canoe/Kayak Coach
  • Knowledge and experience the of RYA Sailing scheme
  • Knowledge of refining the various risk assessments needed for the activities and services within an outdoor setting
  • Awareness of health and safety issues and power boating
