The Outdoor Instructor role is an excellent opportunity for an experienced candidate to join a passionate team based at a well established Outdoor Learning Centre in the heart of the Chilterns.

You will facilitate a wide range of activities to support the growth, development and education of young people and adults who visit us. You will have a passion for learning outside of the classroom and be dedicated to delivering that experience at Woodrow. You will deliver outdoor sessions such as low ropes, bush craft, high ropes, archery; sports sessions including cycling skills; as well as problem-solving activities, arts and craft, and environmental activities. Some essential qualifications are expected, others can be worked towards and will be supported by London Youth, as appropriate to your role.

Hours: 42 hrs per week - this role requires evening and weekend work
Leave: 31 days per annum pro rata (plus bank holidays)
Accommodation: On-site living accommodation (available at a charge of £254.28 per month)
Meals: You will be eligible for meals in the canteen, free of charge, when on duty



  • Must be 18 years old or over, with a right to work in the UK.
  • Due to the nature of this role where you will be working with young people and vulnerable adults, you will be required to complete an enhanced DBS application prior to any commencement of employment.

Essential Experience, Knowlege & Skills

  • At least one full season's experience (or equivalent) of instructing a variety of outdoor activities at an outdoor learning centre.
  • Experience of working with a range of customers, including young people and adults, with different backgrounds and varying needs
  • Demonstrable understanding of health and safety issues pertaining to outdoor activities
  • Demonstrable skill delivering quality customer service and positive customer experiences
  • Demonstrable understanding of the value of outdoor learning and associated outcomes
  • Computer literate and comfortable using Microsoft Office 365 applications


You must hold at least one of the following qualifications (essential): 

  • ERCA, SPA (RCI), NCWA (CWI), or other relevant ropes-based qualification
  • Archery GB Instructor Award
  • A walking qualification, such as BEL/ML/WGL/LL
  • Level 2 Bushcraft Award or equivalent
  • Mountain Bike Leader/ Instructor or other relevant cycling qualification
  • A valid first aid qualification (essential)
  • D1 / PCV drivers license (desirable)
  • NPLQ lifeguarding qualification (desirable)
