About the Role
To effectively and efficiently deliver the main responsibilities and key result areas encompassed within a Residential Support Worker role. To meet the below requirements within a registered children’s home providing day to day care, direction and support to young people who may display challenging behaviours, emotion and social difficulties.  A key part of the role will be to utilise the outdoors as a means of education and support for the children we look after.

Responsibilities Of the Role

  • To carry out duties in line with A Wilderness Way Ltd's policies and procedures.
  • Provide and participate in leisure activities in line with the care and placement plans of the young people.
  • Engage with the children and identify outdoor adventurous activity plans. 
  • Lead and Engage with the children to participate in outdoor education in line with your qualifications and within guidelines of our risk assessments and AALS license.
  • To promote structure, boundaries and domestic routines within the home.
  • Working in line with the children and young people's care pathway plans. 
  • Promoting positive outcomes for the children and young people in the areas of staying safe, being healthy, enjoying and achieving, making positive contribution and achieving economic wellbeing.
  • To work in accordance with the quality standards and children's home regulations and co-operate with any inspection process.
  • Be a positive role model for the young people, presenting in a highly professional manner.
  • Work in partnership with other agencies to the benefit of the young people. 
  • Participate in and complete reports for statutory reviews and meetings concerning the young people.
  • Undertake relevant training programmes as required.
  • Complete and maintain administrative records as required by the home. 
  • To ensure every young person is made aware of their rights and that they are encouraged to explore and enjoy their rights (UN convention on the Rights Of The Child).
  • Develop and maintain professional working relationships with colleagues, children and families.
  • Attend and participate in supervision and staff meetings required
  • Work in partnership with colleagues and other professionals to meet the social, emotional, educational, physical and mental health needs of young people.
  • Awareness and responsibility for the health and safety of the home, young people, colleagues and yourself.
  • Supporting young people with project and group work.

Requirements

Requirements of the Role

  • Willing to participate in a national diploma in residential childcare (If not already qualified or holding an   equivalent qualification).
  • Previous experience of working with young people is desirable.
  • Sleeping in / shift work, including evenings and weekends on a rota system.
  • Minimum of 1-year experience of working with young people in a residential setting is desirable although not   essential. 
  • Knowledge of the new 'National Care Standards'.
  • Understanding the principles and practical application of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Full manual driving license.
  • Applicants must be aged 21 or over.
