As a driver guide, your primary responsibility is the safety of our clients while leading them through some of the most incredible glacier
scenery in the world. But first you have to get there! In order to reach
some of the more remote areas, a modified "super jeep" is required.
These large passenger carrying vehicles, capable of traveling on and
off-road through rough winter terrain, are an increasingly popular
tourist attraction within Iceland in their own right. Working under the
direct supervision of veteran Icelandic superjeep drivers, you will be
driving our clients to their destination while delivering exciting
information about the natural history, geology and glaciology of the
local area.As well as the driving component, you will be responsible for leading groups of up to 12 people to and from the ice caves. Ice caves vary in
shape, size and colour but all have one thing in common- they are an
incredible natural sight! As a guide you are responsible for delivering a
memorable experience to our clients and a high level of care is
expected. Attention to the safety and comfort of our clients at all
times is your job. This is not an entry level position- full training is provided, however it is important you have experience and confidence driving with
passengers in winter conditions. Please read the requirements of this
position carefully before applying.
Our tours cater to tourists with no previous mountaineering experience and are best described as introductory in nature. As a member
of our guide team, you must have the ability to entertain as well as
the ability to keep our clients safe! While full training is provided, a background in the outdoors (be it personal or professional) will greatly benefit your application. We want
to know what it is about you that demonstrates you are enthusiastic
about adventure. We value a history of outdoor activity, travel and
adventure and our team is made up of staff from all over the world who
share these passions. Full, comprehensive initial training will be provided, covering all aspects of driving modified vehicles- however a degree of aptitude is
necessary. This role will not suit a person who does not have experience
working in an outdoor environment during the winter. To be considered for a position with us you must be able to demonstrate the criteria listed.
- The ability to communicate clearly in English. Any additional language skills will benefit your application.
- A proactive attitude to learning and the mental fortitude required to work for extended periods in extremes of weather.
- You are legally entitled to live and work in Iceland (nationals of EU/EEA countries or same rights).
- A full, clean, category D or D1 driving license as well as a current and valid CPC qualification.
- The desire and ability to develop advanced winter driving skills under supervision of experienced Icelandic drivers.
