Plans have been submitted to build a new Coastal Activity Centre at Whitehaven Harbour. The plan has been submitted to Copeland Council by a community interest company.

Planned facilities for the building located at the base of the historic Wellington Pit would include a new slipway, ten rooms for overnight accommodation, changing facilities and multi-purpose rooms to be used for training courses, performances and other activities. There would also be a storage compound for canes, kayaks and sailing boats.
